Fiction Submissions

Artwork submissions are considered separately.

Poetry

We accept poetry with fantastical elements of no more than 48 lines.

Short Stories

We accept fantasy, science fiction, speculative fiction, and almost anything with some type of fantastical element. We do NOT want excessive swearing or any graphic bloodshed or sex.

  1. Stories should be no more than 10,000 words in length (though we prefer stories less than 7,000 words)
  2. We accept reprints, but make sure you tell us that it is a reprint. We assume that all materials sent are the property of the author. It is the author’s responsibility to make sure that material can be reprinted.
  3. We do NOT accept simultaneous submissions from the same author.
  4. Electronic submissions only!

Submission Format

  1. All manuscripts should be saved as RTF (Rich Text Format) files, with a maximum file size of 250 kilobytes.
  2. Please include your real name, mailing address, and e-mail in the upper, left-hand corner of the manuscript’s first page.
  3. Manuscripts should be double-spaced in 12pt Times New Roman.
  4. Please keep italicized script in italics (as opposed to underlined). The manuscript should look like how you would want it to look in print.
  5. Please use tabs for indentation, rather than inserting spaces or editing the paragraph settings.
  6. Do not skip lines between paragraphs.
  7. Please mark section breaks with a newline, a pound sign (#), and another newline.

We will try our best to provide feedback. However, we are not a critiquing service, so please send us your best work—preferrably, work that has been edited. Stories without typos or grammatical errors are more likely to be accepted.

We request that authors allow accepted stories to be archived in past issues online. However, we will remove a story from these archives if the author requests. Once requested, the story should be taken down within three weeks. If this does not happen, please send a query in case your request got lost in the mail.

Submission Period

  1. Submissions are open all year round.
  2. Stories are accepted on a rolling basis and will be considered for upcoming issues of Ensorcelled.
  3. We do not accept simultaneous submissions (more than one story submitted to us at one time by the same author). However, if a story is rejected, you are more than welcome to send us another.

Rights

We claim Non-Exclusive electronic publishing rights for all submissions. In addition, accepted submissions may undergo minor edits (mainly grammatical). During the spring, we may request one-time print publication rights for the stories selected to be included in a print anthology. We electronically archive all accepted work. Authors may request for their stories to be removed at any time. In addition, we will not retain rights on submissions that we do not accept.

By submitting your story, you are agreeing to these terms.

Payment

We regret that at the moment, we are unable to pay for accepted stories. We hope that in the future this will change.

Please contact the editors if you have any questions regarding submissions.
